WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON AT ILKLEY RUGBY CLUB
From Stuart Campbell ~ Chairman of Junior and Youth Rugby
A warm welcome to all, I hope you had a great summer.
There have been a few changes to the junior committee.
Andy Hinchliffe has stepped down and Tim Marlow has taken over as joint chairman with myself.
Can I extend our collective thanks to Andy for his dedication and hard work over the past year. Victor Chevens has also stepped down as junior secretary and Sean Gilbert has taken over.
I would like to thank Victor for all his hard work over the last two years.
John Redding has stepped down as safeguarding Officer for the club with Ann Christian taking over.
John has been a fantastic volunteer for the club not only was he safeguarding officer, but he was also Junior Chairman 5 years ago.
A huge thank you from all of us at the club for his dedication to Junior Rugby.
Andy Hinchliffe has taken over the role of Youth Development and will be link between the colts and the senior teams. This will ensure that our colt’s players have a safe pathway into adult rugby.
Congratulations to the Under 15s who won Yorkshire Bowl Final. The final was played at Ilkley and it was a very close game against Pocklington.
The rest of the junior section once again had a good season with all of our teams improving each year.
The minis had another great season and continue to expand in numbers.
This season we will be running a combined colt’s team which will be coached by Kelvin Dobson.
The colts will be in Yorkshire Division 3.
Over the summer we continued to run the successful O2 Touch Rugby programme where players had great fun in this non-contact game.
It was great to see so many players of all ages and from both genders enjoying our sport.
Our Minis, Junior and Youth Section continues to be seen as one of the best in the area and this would not be possible without all our Coaching and Administration volunteers.
Their dedication allows us to coach and put out teams across every age group week in and week out.
The following is said every year but it is a simple fact ‘many hands make light work’. The club is run by volunteers and more are always needed. If you fancy getting involved in any aspect please do come and have a chat with Tim or myself.
We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to referee. The club will cover the cost of any courses.
If you are interested in refereeing please contact us. Remember without refs we have no games!
We are aiming to do more this year with coaching development and want to get quite a few through the RFU Level 2 course which is now important for the 15 a-side teams from Under 13s upward.
Coaches also need to maintain their Coaching Licence by attending at least two CPD courses a year – always very relevant and fun to take part in. We will be regularly publishing courses that are available but if you have any specific needs please do ask, we have a lot of support from our RFU Development Team and they are always willing to help.
Remember the club will cover the costs of any coaching courses that are required.
We hope you all have an enjoyable season. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas for our Junior Section please do come and have a chat.
