Club Handbook, Junior and Youth Section ~ Season 2017 - 18

WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON AT ILKLEY RUGBY CLUB

From Tim Marlow~ Chairman of Junior and Youth Rugby

Welcome to the 2017/18 season, especially to those new players and parents who
join us for the first time. I want to publicly take the opportunity of thanking Stuart
for his previous tenure as Junior Chairman, for a little man he certainly leaves big
boots to fill!
For those that are not aware, I take over the role this season with the support of my fellow under 12 coach - Sean Gilbert. We both look forward to building on the success that the junior section has achieved.
After a great Lions tour to New Zealand and them coming away with a lot more than anyone expected rugby is once again thriving after the media coverage and I would like to think we have some of our minis and juniors aspiring to one day pull on the red jersey as the pinnacle of any rugby players career.

Our season starts off with training throughout September for all junior teams which is a great opportunity for all to catch up with everyone after the summer off. Please take the time to stay around afterwards whilst the weather stays reasonable.
This season continues the swap shop which offers great value for pre loved rugby kit in most sizes so please have a rummage after training for anything that is required or grown out of, but also please bring down your own unwanted items too.
I'd also like to highlight the facilities we have on offer at Ilkley. Jasmine is the smiley face behind the bar and whilst you can get your favourite tipple after the game she also serves some great coffee before too - in my opinion this is as good if not better than the local chains and much more convenient to go with a bacon sarnie of course so please make use of this!

The clubhouse is the envy of most other clubs we visit and it is important we maintain its cleanliness, so please can we ask all members to respect and 'police' this between yourselves. If you see juniors (or adults) in muddy kit please politely ask them to change or cover up. If you wouldn't allow it at home please don't allow it at the club.
That's the house rules out the way, so I would like to finish by wishing all our teams a successful season ahead. We currently have over 400 juniors down every Sunday morning but always want more, so feel free to ask your family and friends to come down and try out the amazing game we play as it is the social hub of the Wharfe Valley every Sunday morning.
Not only is the physical side excellent, the values instilled at a junior age in all our players are in my opinion priceless and friends are made for life through this fabulous game we all call Rugby.

Have a great 2017/18 season.

Tim
