Hayley Gillon 28/06/1964 - 14/12/2024
Hayley and her husband Tom, son Calum and daughter Morag were regulars at Ilkley Rugby Club from the early 1980’s as Tom pursued his rugby career. Calum then began his own rugby career through the Junior section with Mum Hayley and her young daughter watching them both while undertaking kitchen duties for Junior match and training days.
Most notably, Hayley was then the club physiotherapist for both Senior XV’s on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays home and away. Many of you will remember the hours she spent on the sidelines and in the portakabin in the days of the old clubhouse.
Of course, in those halcyon days physiotherapy was provided FOC or at least for not very much!
Hayley was much loved by her parents Colin and Hazel Gore and siblings, as well as Tom, Calum and Morag.
Colin and Hazel were forerunners for Tom and Hayley at Ilkley Rugby Club, Colin having played and later coached and refereed at the club after their move to the town in the 1970’s.
Over the years I have seen Hayley along with her carers at the Ilkley Sunday market, the last time only a couple of weeks ago. I was greeted as always by Hayley with a cheery hello, a wave, and an infectious smile despite her deteriorating condition.
We send our most sincere condolences to Calum, Morag and all Hayley’s family and to the team of wonderful carers.
Hayley, may you Rest in Peace, at last free from the pain and suffering of Multiple Sclerosis you have endured with such fortitude for so much of the sixty years you have been with us.
God bless!
